I’m really a beach girl, love my books, newspapers and magazines sitting in my beach chair on 5th Avenue in Seaside Park New Jersey. So when labor day comes and I see the life guard chairs getting dragged away its a bit sad. So the only way that I know to let go of summer and welcome another beautiful season is to find items for my home that will make it comfy and warm for the upcoming sweater weather.
I am learning how to knit, but it would take me until next summer to make this beautiful chunky blanket for a brisk fall day. This beautiful throw can be found at CB2
A wood tote basket….I love to fill baskets with blankets, pillow and pine cones… I love to place a basket besides my Gas Burning Fireplace with white birch logs for a nice cozy look without the hassle of cutting and splitting logs. This one can be purchased at Pottery Barn.
There are a few sources to purchase white birch logs….here is one from Walmart
I love to change out the look of my front door and the urns by my entry way. I’ll plant grasses in a burgundy color and add baskets of mums and cabbages for a nice combination of color and various textures. Here is my pick for the front door wreath from Pottery Barn
Lastly, there is nothing better than sitting around an out door fire pit in the fall holding a mulled wine (recipe below). The nights are crisp, the fire is warm and the crickets sounds are memorizing …
Ingredients:
1 (750 ml) bottle of dry red wine
1 orange, sliced into rounds
1/4 cup brandy (optional)
1/4 cup honey or sugar
8 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
optional garnishes: citrus slices (orange, lemon and/or lime), extra cinnamon sticks, extra star anise
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a non-aluminum saucepan, and bring to a simmer (not a boil — you don’t want to boil the alcohol out!) over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours. Strain, and serve warm with your desired garnishes.
*You can also place the oranges, cloves, cinnamon, and star anise in a cheesecloth. Then simply strain and pull out the bundle when ready to serve.
Embraces the fall, as winter will be here before you know it.
